Ginseng is the root of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer (Panax schinseng Nees) (Araliaceae), from which rootlets have been removed, or the root that has been quickly passed through hot water.
Ginseng contains ginsenoside as an ingredient and is said to improve physical weakness and loss of appetite.
Carrot, a vegetable, is a member of the Apiaceae family, whereas ginseng, which is used in crude drug, is a member of the Araliaceae family. The steamed, dried material is used as red ginseng, a crude drug.
