Coffea arabica L. Rubiaceae

This plant is an understory tree. The plant height is 9 to 12 meters. The flower appears from May to June in Kyoto. This plant grows wild in Ethiopia and tropical area of West Africa and is cultivated at latitudes from 25 degrees N to 25 degrees S (which is sometimes called the coffee belt). The seed is superior in taste and fragrance, and accounts for 90% of all production.

The color of the flower is white, and its scent is similar to jasmine. It flowers throughout the year.

The fruit is called a "coffee cherry" and tastes sweet.
